Music and Wheels Car show

Car show

Each year the city of Mason City celebrates its musical history with a Band Festival Parade. The "Music and Wheels Car show" show is held each year in conjunction with this.

The show is put on by the River City Street Rods and typically draws a pretty large crowd of owners from around the region. Mostly 50's-70's cars and trucks are on display with a few import cars as well. There are several different classes with awards for each.

The show is moving this year to the Principal Finacial parking area (just west of Southbridge Mall). We will have 2 classes of vehicles- Up to 1969 and 1970 to present. Awards will be given to the top 50 in each class.

The Band Festival is a busy weekend here in Mason City, so plan ahead if you are coming from a distance. If you are seeking hotels, look in Mason City or Clear Lake, IA. Click here for a list of area lodging.

Why "River City". Whats in a name?

Mason City, known for its outstanding musical heritage, was the birthplace of Mason City's "favorite son" Meredith Willson. His crowning achievement was the famous musical "The Music Man" . Many of the ideas in the show were taken from personal experiences during his childhood in Mason City. In that show he coined the name of the town as "River City, Iowa"
